Critical Thinking in the age of Artificial Intelligence

This activity introduces the fundamentals of critical reading and writing and how it must be developed considering the effects of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The activity helps students assess the arguments of others for their logic and use of evidence, and to form well-reasoned arguments of their own.


The Critical Thinking in the age of Artificial Intelligence activity is part of Area 2 of the Gap Year in Spain program of CIS and UC3M.

Through regular drafts and revision, students learn to develop and defend positions on issues, incorporate and explain evidence to support those positions, and express their ideas in clearly written essays. This activity is focused on the use of new tools and technologies, learning how AI can be integrated into critical thinking.

By the end of the course you will be able to:


  1. Analyze and assess written arguments through active reading, fair summary, and evaluation of reasoning, in the context of societal changes caused by the development of AI.

  2. Develop and support a position on an issue, using the viewpoints of others as a context for their own argument.

  3. Substantiate claims through the use of appropriately documented evidence.

  4. Transfer critical reading and thinking skills across learning contexts.
