Experiential and Cultural Spain

This activity addresses the diverse reality of contemporary Spain Both the reality today and the history behind it is brought to life through field trips, visits to museums, cultural explorations of the city of Madrid, in-class presentations, readings, the viewing of films, and lectures.


The Experiential and Cultural Spain activity is part of Area 1 of the Gap Year in Spain program of CIS and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

Focus on the acquisition of basic communicative skills (speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing), in addition to examination of topics related to Hispanic cultures around the world.


Within Area 1, the student can decide whether to take Experiential and Cultural Spain at CIS University or History of Spanish Culture at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M).

Learning Outcomes


By the end of the Experiential and Cultural Spain activity, students will be able to:


  1. Reflect on Spanish basic grammar rules and use them in appropriate contexts.

  2. Identify the the most salient aspects of Spanish culture.

  3. Be acquainted with the geography of Spain.

  4. Know the prime contributions of past civilizations to Spain's cultural heritage.

  5. Understand Spain’s rapidly changing social and political reality today.

  6. Practice the preparation and execution of cultural itineraries.
